  1. Hank Aaron was 16 when he first began 
  2. playing organized baseball, with the 
  3. semi-pro Black Bears, in his hometown 
  4. of Mobile. He also played halfback for 
  5. his high school football team.

  7. For several years, Hank, a right-handed 
  8. batter, hit cross-handed (he put his left 
  9. hand on top of his right hand when he 
  10. gripped the bat). He got away with this 
  11. "wrong" hitting style only because his
  12. wrists were so strong. But he soon 
  13. realized how much more power he 
  14. could get if he gripped the bat "correctly."
